Dispatch from NYC:
Anyone in New York following this blog—the tuition at Cooper Union, my first home in New York and one of the last great democratic institutions in Manhattan has just gone up from 0$ to 20,000$.
The students have occupied the president’s office and there’s a protest now. The Mayor’s there.
Get over there and show some support if you can. People will need it.
Cooper Union was a place where anyone from any race, creed, color or background, could go to school if they could just afford it, was a rare example of a place trying to be a real meritocracy. It meant a lot to me and a lot of other kids from the wrong side of the tracks. Would hate to see it die.
